What's your favorite thing from the old games you wished they'd bring back, or perhaps just your favorite thing in general that was more unique to the old games (e.g. if the generations thing in FE4 was your thing, you can mention that since although FE13 did it, that was recently and it wasn't exactly the same, so it was unique to FE4 for a long while/that was the game that started it).

Personally I thought FE2's world map feature with two main characters was awesome, but perhaps even more than that, the Capture ability was pretty cool. I didn't think it would be, but it definitely spiced things up, and although I think it could have been executed better I still dig the idea in general, that's for sure.

I really like the darker story from FE4 but I guess that isn't really a feature. The world map would be cool, but I wish they would bring back, someone's gonna get mad about this, the maps they used in FE4. I don't mean the fact that you had GIANT maps that made the chapter long and boring at times, but the fact that you could look at the world map that they used in some cutscenes, and then the map you were fighting on and realize where you where. I also really liked the multiple objectives per map thing they had.

hmm, that is a cool point. In a lot of places it feels like the smaller maps are hardly a part of the larger maps, you can't really connect them as well, but in FE4 you kinda could.

unique objectives is always cool, running away in Thracia for ages... lol, wasn't my favorite feature but I have to give it a little credit for beating FE13's "defeat the boss" and "defeat all enemies" x50 chapters lol

Yeah XD. Oh one thing I forgot is the stamina system from Tharcia. Now I haven't played the game so I can't be 100% sure about this, but it seems cool that you can't just rely on the same units every chapter. It also forces you to not just train 5-7 units like you can in some other FEs.

I really liked Fatigue. I know some people really didn't, but whatever. Mind you, it helped that FE5's difficulty came from basically everything *but* enemy stats, so it wasn't catastrophic to lose your best combatant for a chapter the way it is in the more recent FE's highest difficulties.Capture was awesome, too. I understand that it wouldn't make too much sense in a modern FE game since pretty much every FE since 5 has given you a bazillion gold, but, again, whatever.

That actually makes me think - more FEs should have unique mechanics that add to the story. Fatigue and the lack of money really added to Thracia more than just strategically.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Dismounting return as long as it is handled well.

^I agree with Rujio, I loved Capture, and Fatigue was very interesting too, I feel the GBA games sacrificed a large amount in gameplay for more character depth and a more structured simplified core to the games.

Fe:9 blew that wide open with it's sort of scattergun approach to concepts but we're talking about old here.

I will always hate the fact that Sealed Sword was all Seize chapters, I wonder how different the game would have been if they'd had the different chapter requirements for Fe:6...

yeah FE6 was definitely bland with regards to that and I always felt that chapter goals were a major part of strategizing/gameplay, sure there's a lot of strategy in just beating enemies but trying to achieve an ultimate task sometimes means just not beating up all the enemies but perhaps avoiding them, beating them quicker, or even outlasting them, or beating certain ones, or something like that.

I kinda forgot about fatigue because I cheated and used that one item that let you bypass it over and over but that was a little cool and added a bit of realism if nothing else

The one thing I think most definitely should *not* return is FE5's Escape mechanics, though. Thank goodness I read about that before playing Chapter 4 the first time.

I'm a big fan of the older games so everything that everyone has said so far I pretty much agree with.

My personal favorite feature was the way FE4 did generations, and while the first post mentions that FE13 did it, I wasn't very impressed with the whole "Time travel" plot device. I'd like to see another FE game with a timeskip and a more fleshed out generation system. Could make for some interesting plots.

Yeah in this one they expanded more on the general relationships and had time plots intertwined on that, the actual plot depth/story depth wasn't super huge and some people didn't like that and as a result didn't like Awakening, but a lot of people DID like it since they liked how it felt more casual unlike the typical super complex RPG plot, and it made the characters seem more like actual characters instead of tragic anime guys where everyone goes through some major character change and stuff. That being said we just had the latter so something with the former (deeper plot, more character development, more meaning to sidequests/paralogues in terms of expanding chapters, giving more characters their own subplots, etc.) would be cool

bit of a necropost, but while we're here. i liked how fe8 let you unlock boss characters through the tower and ruins. not sure why i even bothered to get them all since half of them were useless anyway, but it gave me a sense of accomplishment(keep in mind i first played sacred stones when i was like 8 years old)

oh man the requirements for unlocking the extra characters in that game were both awful and a joke >_>
