o hey.
I beat Hyrule Warriors the day of release, so... 20 September.
...
yep.

...Yeah, it is indeed a very mindless game (But, as a first time Warriors player, it's really fun)... At first. The adventure mode of the game pretty much remedies this and is REALLY difficult at some points and requires you to think.
If you're an idiot (Like me) or a completionist you'll spend a VERY long time on this game (And the adventure mode alone will be like 99% of game time), so yay.

...Back to the game nao.

oh wow beat Hyrule Warriors already? wait, didn't it come out the 19th? ah, well, cool anyway, glad you enjoyed it. I will almost definitely take a *much* longer time to beat it on account of not being able to binge such repetitive games for so long

also persona is cool

also you guys are getting the New 3DS then? Awesome!

@Voffie once again, so fast. Both games already beaten? Sick. Kinda curious if 100% OJ was actually good or not, but I think that was mentioned in another topic so I suppose we'll leave it for there XP

Sooo... Pretty near 100% for HW.

Finished off Kirby: Triple Deluxe today, though... Since Smash 3DS'll probably live in my 3DS when I get my hands on it.

I dunno if I'll get the New 3DS though... Not 'till Xenoblade is released at least.

Rune Factory Frontier, Wii, 9/28/2014
This game had so little of my attention that I never listed me as actually playing it. Rune Factory 4 has spoiled me. Now back to throwing myself at Rune Prana so I finally beat Rune Factory 4.

you have the advantage of getting it much earlier than most of us and whatnot, Whitewolf

@Voffie Non-numbered titles, regardless of the series, tend to not get me interested nearly as much. Some don't have numbers and for those it's the spin-offs that usually are "eh". Not that there aren't good spin-offs I just don't feel as compelled or interested in playing them.

Here's my update for today, since the last update of mine:

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS****, 3DS, September 12th, 2014
Arrow Time U, Wii U, September 17th, 2014
Arrow Time U, Wii U, September 19th, 2014
SPIKEY WALLS, Wii U, September 19th, 2014
BLOK DROP U, Wii U, September 19th, 2014
Gunman Clive, 3DS, September 20th, 2014
Azure Striker Gunvolt, 3DS, September 21st, 2014
Mighty Gunvolt, 3DS, September 23rd, 2014
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, PS Vita, October 1st, 2014
NES Remix, Wii U, October 1st, 2014
Super Smash Bros. for 3DS*****, 3DS, October 7th, 2014

Comments:

- The asterisks are for my notes. Anyhow, this is the JP version.
- Just an indie game on the eShop
- " ", second playthrough
- " "
- " "
- A fun shooting platformer for the 3DS. Hard at times. Short but fun overall. Not exactly my style but I was still able to enjoy it.

Azure Striker Gunvolt - Great game. The music was great and upbeat and fitting overall. The gameplay was also great. Naturally it reminds me of Mega Man a tiny bit but it mostly felt like it's own awesome game. It's also got a pretty good story IMO (at least for a platformer) and the graphics were solid (albeit you could argue they are slightly retro-styled, I guess, but that didn't bother me). Would highly suggest to platformer fans. Oh yeah, and it has nice bonuses and difficulty and other stuff.

Mighty Gunvolt - A very simple game way more reminiscent of Mega Man than ASG, haha. Anyhow, again it's short but very fun. It's got a solid amount of effort into it despite having been a freebie which makes sense since it will apparently be sold separately later on. Overall just a short but enjoyable and well-made "retro" experience.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair - Great game, I think I might've enjoyed/liked the first one a bit more. The gameplay was cleaned up a bit but is still kinda confusing and meh (especially on harder modes). Has some flaws but overall one of the best mystery/thriller/VN-styled games you'll ever find. Naturally I suggest playing the first game before tackling this one for you to be able to appreciate it all. Trying to go through extra content for this now (free time events, reading Danganronpa IF, etc.)

NES Remix - Fun game, but very hard at times. Also just plain annoying at times. It kind of really is for the hardcore gamer more than anything else IMO, since all the games are retro games. It's kinda funny and charming at times but it wasn't really a thrilling experience. I feel like I had enough of it (especially since some of the challenges are stupidly annoying) so I'll pass on the sequel, at least for a while (I'll have to get pretty bored before I try it out).

Smash Bros. for 3DS - Good, but feels kind of like a simpler/less-fleshed-out version of the Wii U version. That being said it's portable and it's Smash so it's still amazing, but I am certainly looking forward to the Wii U version. I think they did a good job at this first iteration of Smash, it feels well-done overall. The online is also much improved. Also, this version is actually in English and that's partially why I'm commenting on this one more, lol.

So overall I beat a lot of games in late-October, beat a pretty fair number of games until the last week in Novemeber... and then took a break for about a month where I didn't game as much (and what I did was mostly games like Smash that I was just lpaying multiplayer or whatever), so I ended up not beating anything for a month... and ultimately couldn't reach my goal of 64.

Actually, my goal was to get 70 games or more beaten for the year, but time flew by and towards the end I realized it'd be way too much of a last-minute push to get that done, so I aimed for 64, but alas, I couldn't force myself to do that either, so I ended up just letting things go as they were and beat 62. Which is "okay". In 2012 I beat 33 games and the year after (2013) I started gaming a LOT more and beat 79. This year I beat a fair # of RPG's and such and I think I may have gamed slightly less overall, or perhaps I just played a lot more smaller games last year, I'm not sure.

Before I comment one very game listed above, here's a link to a pastebin submission with my Personal Completed Games List for 2014. Just felt like sharing the whole thing since I enjoy keeping records, lol.

Alright, commentary time!

The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki II - An awesome game, way better than the original (which was one of the worst Trails games in the series, apparently--I've only played a few so I can't really say myself). The graphics are the same and the base engine is apparently the same, but the animations are way better, the designs are better, the story and writing and other stuff were better... in general, it was just a lot better. The music was AMAZING as always and the gameplay felt more refined as well. Overall it was an epic RPG experience, even if it was in Japanese, and while the game still has TONS of room for improvement, it's still a very enjoyable game in its own right, or I wouldn't have played it as much as I did in the short time I did (I beat it rather quickly given that it took a looong time--I think over 50 hours). ... Oh yeah by the way, the main character is a chump, lol.

Hyrule Warriors - Solid game, more or less what you would expect from a crossover. The graphics were solid (though not usually impressive, especially in local co-op), the music was great from what I remember, and it's packed with content and such, not to mention has lots of DLC. Definitely a game for The Legend of Zelda fans, but still a solid and enjoyable game otherwise, IMO.

Pokemon Y - I already played X and decided to play this one (I believe I got it free from a Club Nintendo promotion). It was pretty solid, not that much different as usual, but I do enjoy Pokemon games. I think it actually took me longer than X because of how I am with these games (even though I played it I still obsess over exploring a lot and talking to most people >_>').

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call - A great rhythm game. Unlike a game like Rhythm Heaven, the songs are all styled similarly with only a few different types, but it works and especially on harder difficulties it feels rather fun and rewarding. I'm not a huge Final Fantasy fan but I did recognize a good amount of songs and overall it was an enjoyable game. biggrin.gif

Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight - This isn't a normal Street Fighter game, but it was still sort of fun as a weird platformer game of sorts (you can hang on to things, power-ups are ESSENTIAL, and it's just sort of silly in general). It's also rather hard, so I had to use the savestate feature quite a bit, but regardless, it was a fun VC game.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted U - I'm actually a fan of Criterion's racing games and this is the closest thing to a new Burnout game right now as far as I know and am concerned, so I was actually rather pleased with this. Open-world games aren't really my thing but I liked the EasyDrive and the GamePad-specific features were nice too. The graphics were great and it was a solid port in general--supposedly the definitive version of the game, haha. All said and done, I enjoyed the game quite a bit.

The Legend of Korra - I like PlatinumGames quite a bit and I like Korra too (though moreso the first season; I don't really feel that much affection towards it now), so I liked this game, but you could tell it sort of lacked a certain level of polish, perhaps because it was rushed or just because it was licensed, I don't know... but it's still a solid game in general, especially if you like action games. Probably better than the The Legend of Korra game for the 3DS, lol.

Elite Beat Agents - Ironically I've played osu but hadn't played this, but I finally took the time out to and despite a shaky start, I was having quite a bit of fun later on, haha. The game is *super* tough, or at least it was for me, even on lower levels, but despite that it's still fun and hey, a challenge now and then is rewarding. Overall, a solid game and worth playing, though the harder levels aren't for me, haha--I had problems with using the stylus for the buttons and such, and I can't focus too long either, lol.

Bayonetta - OK, so I picked this game up for Xbox 360 but when they said they'd put out a Wii U version, I sold it, and I don't regret it. This is a great port for one of my favorite systems (Wii U) and the original game is great, so... in the end, it was a great and very enjoyable experience. A great lead-in to the sequel, which will be further down this list. If you like action games, if you like mature games, if you want something epic with a good story/music/graphics/whatever... if you just want a great game, Bayonetta should be up there (unless you're totally against its themes and such, which I can understand).

Kirby: Triple Deluxe - Had this game for a while and through playing it mostly in short spurts, I was able to finally beat it. Been playing Kirby games for a while and I enjoy them, and this wasn't much of an exception. While it's a very solid game overall, it didn't impress me, which is sort of typical for Kirby games at this point. Regardless, it's a great platformer and it certainly innovated from previous Kirby games, and had fun boss battles and abilities and such, so while it's no game of the year, it's still one of the better and more easily recommendable 3DS games out there, haha.

Spirit Camera: Cursed Memoir - Albeit short, this is one of the more innovative games out there, making great use of this thing called an AR Book that uses the 3DS Camera as part of the game. It's a spin-off of the Fatal Frame series TMK and a solid one at that--though not very deep it has some cool extra modes and is clearly built for the system. If you like mystery or horror games, games that use hardware uniquely, or are a fan of the Fatal Frame series, you might want to check this out. I usually played in dark surroundings and while standing up and that added to the fun, though I will complain that getting enough light on the AR book, and getting the angle of the 3DS right while playing it, was a bit annoying and more work than I would have liked... but I guess it couldn't really be helped, so eh.

Yahari Game demo Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru - OK, so it doesn't take a genius to see this is clearly a Japanese game, and the fact that I left it all in Japanese probably means "Blazer wasn't 100% sure what to call it in English". It's actually the first "typical" visual novel I've played (I don't really consider games like the ones in the Ace Attorney visual novels, at least in this sense, since they include more elements than just story-telling and in the case of AA or Danganronpa, also involve detective work and stuff). Anyway, the game is a visual novel based on "My Teenage Romantic Comedy SNAFU", an anime that sort of subverts/parodies the rom-com genre and that I enjoyed a lot as it gets rather serious and philosophical at times (but without getting TOO depressing... like ok, it's sometimes depressing, but it's bearable). Anyway, the game is made by a company that as far as I know is like, an expert in visual novels, so it had pretty much everything I could need: manual saves, auto-saves, an understandable system (though the language barrier did hurt at first, I managed to understand what I couldn't through trial & error--pretty much, most choices you make are veeerrry important, even if they don't seem like it. This is an "anime game" (technically the source is a light novel, but whatever) so obviously it's not for most people, it's for fans of the anime... but for being an anime game, it at least succeeds in what it tries to do, not deviating from the story or the characters and feeling like a rather well-done tribute to it, overall. I personally liked it.

Dark Souls - Ah yes, this game... I ended up streaming it quite a bit for fun, as some people might know. It's known to be very tough, but I found that the toughest part of the game is the lack of knowledge. Once I gained some basic working knowledge (much thanks to those who helped me), I learned enough to be able to trial & error and such, and what I didn't know, I could google and figure out that way. The biggest problems with the games for me were the constant technical issues and the rather outdated/bad design choices: for instance, the framerate would drop at multiple points, the game had multiple annoying glitches, the lighting was really bad (there's a difference between trying to set the atmosphere with dark lighting and bad lighting: this one has both of them, sadly), no pause menu, rather silly warp travel mechanics, and other things... but it's not a game without virtue. You just sort of have to work harder than most games to enjoy it in other words, it's for masochists.

Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax - Yet another imported game (this shouldn't surprise you, I import a lot now adays, for various reasons: mostly because the games have little to no hope of coming west but I'm still interested in them, but on occasion just because I want them early). This one's a somewhat casual fighting game starring characters from various light novels and such. Also, Sega cameos (IIRC there's a couple characters from Valkyria Chronicles as well as a SEGA stage). It's not a very deep or graphically impressive fighting game, it's just sort of... par for the course. The biggest attraction definitely is in the roster--I enjoyed playing the characters I knew, but most everyone else just struck me as really weird and I didn't really care for them. I didn't play it much, but I enjoyed it while I did. If you've played a couple 2D fighter games, you're not really missing much, this game just has the usual modes, some dream mode thingy that isn't that special (just some different dialog and stuff I think), and like I said, the biggest attraction is in the characters, which most people wouldn't be able to appreciate, I don't think.

The Last Promise - Yeah OK, I "made" this game, I know. As it turns out I've had a playthrough going on my 3DS (via a GBA emulator or something) for a while and I wanted to finish it already, so I pushed myself and eventually did. It was just a casual, for-fun playthrough and all, and I'm glad I did it. It wasn't super fun, but surprisingly, I didn't hate it either. But I don't want to go back to it (even though I should probably do a "for-fun" run of the Constellation too), so yeah... I guess you could just say I'm glad it's over with and that doing this "for-fun" playthrough was just something I felt like I needed to do for myself, or something.

Pikmin 3 - OK, I'm getting tired so I think I'm going to cut back on the typing, haha. Anyway, this is actually the first Pikmin game I've played, and now the first Pikmin game I've beaten. I actually didn't really "get" the game until later on, and so I'd only play a little bit once in a while, but once I better understood how to manage my Pikmin and such, it became a lot more fun, haha. It's not exactly "my type of game" but I can still respect it as a good and fun strategy/whatever game (kinda has some action bits too I guess). Anyway, that's why it took me so long to beat. Also, the game's graphics were pretty awesome, and I'm glad I can finally understand the Pikmin series now, lol.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U - Smash for Wii U. Way better than the 3DS version, IMO. Better graphics, stages, music, modes, controller options, etc., I really like it. Lots of fun and will be a game I keep coming to. The hype has died down a bit now, but Smash is a series I really like and unlike other fighting games, I won't just play for a bit, "beat", and hardly ever play again. Heck, I kinda plan to play Smash later today, so... tongue.gif

Ys: The Oath in Felghana - IIRC this was the first Ys game I beat, and so it can be considered the start of me becoming an Ys fanboy. Having not played the game in a while, I decided to do another playthrough, and like most games, it took me a while, but I finally finished it. Just like before, the gameplay was intense and fun, the story was solid, and the music was epic, and I really enjoyed the game.

Bayonetta 2 - Easily one of the top 5 games of the year/one of the contenders for game of the year for me. Though I am not a fan of every aspect of what is now the "Bayonetta series" (even if it's only 2 games), I still have an immense appreciation for the absolutely epic action combat, the amazing cutscenes, graphics, and music, and a story that keeps you captivated and wanting to move forward without boring you—I mean, it's an action game, so of course I want to spend a lot of time fighting, haha. Overall, this is a game I must SERIOUSLY recommend to any fan of games who doesn't like, detest this type of game, as it's such an excellent game and deserves to be enjoyed by many people (way more than it has). I mean, you even get an awesome port of the awesome original Bayonetta game for Wii U... meaning you get 2 games in-one (if you buy it physically, anyway; digital buyers will receive a discount or something)... it's so worth it and I'll probably come back to this game again to do another run which I don't do often, but it's just that good—polished, deep, and a work of art in practically every aspect.

Proteus - This is, uh... an interesting indie game. I don't always beat these interesting indie games (cough Metrico, Fez to name a couple) but in this case I did. You pretty much just go exploring things and it's sort of one of those artistic games that doesn't offer much in the way of gameplay. It's also rather short and doesn't have much depth to it... but it's not without value.

Pokemon Omega Ruby - I actually bought both Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire but I chose to play the remake of Ruby first. The game is like Pokemon X/Y on the surface but of course, features a different region, different characters, etc., while being updated not only graphically from the remake, but story-wise and gameplay-wise as well. In a way it's "just another Pokemon game" but it really is a solid remake, with great music, changes to things like what Pokemon trainers have and trainer designs and such, and having some new features too. It's not without flaws as well, but overall it's a solid remake and I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who considers themselves a Pokemon fan. As for Alpha Sapphire, I'll get to it eventually, but for now I could use a break from all the Pokemon... ...Also, just imagine an accent on all the 'e's that should have them: I don't feel like adding them, lol.

Castle Crashers - Finally we have Castle Crashers, a... um... I'm not sure, an action game of sorts, I guess, it's got this 2.5/3D thing going. It's a neat game and is basic but a lot of fun. The art style is cool. It's funny at times. It's fun to play with friends. I played the Steam version. I hacked a couple times and one of them resulted in desync lulz. Not sure what else to say, but yeah. Castle Crashers.

And with that, I've now commented on every game like I wanted to. My hands are super tired and I don't even think anyone will read this, but I enjoy reflecting on the games I've played so I don't really mind.

If anyone else has beaten any games in the year 2014, be sure to share it. I'll start up a new thread for 2015 for anyone who's interested though I don't expect many people to be.
