I think I'll go with a Titlescreen and then practice and wait a while before trying the battle frames. Or practice with inserting a few ones with minor changes, or something like that.

I think I'll pass on the custom menus for this.

Do you know how hard it would be for that statscreen and that green background image that scrolls? I'm not planning fancy gold trim on things or anything, say changing the blue tile pattern. (I think that's the right word)

Ok major BUMP here.

The project is back up and running, and pretty much the story is in a totally different direction. It's changed to a more serious tone, and Selara is not so mean anymore. Red and green look different, and I've carefully gone over the grammar. I'm also considering a Title change.

I'll update the first post with a patch once I've finished the second chapter.

I've added a *custom* Map.

Its the prologue map, with a few edits. I'd like critique on the edits. It's essentially a practice, for me inserting it into the game seeing how it goes and any other stuff.

So yeah, my next aim is a custom Title screen (still searching for a good tutorial, if you know of one that'll help) , followed by a fully custom second map - that's right not just simple edits.

TBH the customized terrain is sort of odd IMO but whatever, at least it is not the exact same as it originally is.

And it's good to know that you successfully inserted a map. biggrin.gif

Also, there is no specific tutorial for a custom title screen. It mostly works like normal graphic editing using GBAGE. The Ultimate Tutorial has a few chapters on GBAGE (and the CG and battle BG tutorials also help you get experience with GBAGE).

EDIT: I have tried stuff on GBAGE but usually things don't turn out so well, so far I've only been able to change palettes.

The river looks a bit jagged meeting the land in a few spots and the fence has a bit too much of a shadow. Also you should probably rename the characters so they aren't colors. ._.

There is or was a good reason for them to be named colours.
But I do have to consider whether I'll still use it. I probably will.

Also the wall comes with that shadow. So if it's too much I might just not use it for the whole side.

What exactly would that entail?

Custom Events? Custom Map Data? Custom Goal? Custom Units?

Well it was originally for people who knew how to use patches and the like.
If I were you, I'd wait a week or so for a newer, better patch, with instructions.

Just a small update to let people know that a patch is about a day away.
The script has a few spelling mistakes that need to be fixed.
Also I moved to using a 'lazy chibi' cause I'm cool lazy like that.
Thanks to whoever it was for the idea. (I think it was Flying Ace but I could be wrong)

The patch will only consist of the prologue and chapter 1.
From there I will update for every chapter at a time, and go a bit slower than before.

Blazer was wondering what the victory conditions would be on that map because there isn't a seize location. I assume a riot or defeat boss though.

Ahh, well that's the map for chapter 1. Not the prologue. The chapter 1 goal is defeat enemy.
I need to rework the prologue map some more. It will still have the same goal cause I don't know how to event hack the goal changes.

Also, I wasn't really asking about anything. I was just commenting that custom gameplay (generally defined as a custom map that doesn't resemble an existing map with unrecognizably different events than the original game) is awesome and makes me happy.

If you're not using totally custom events, don't bother. tongue.gif If you need to know, there are 3 main defeat goals, although you can have more. 1) Defeat All, there is a macro in the EA for this, 2) Defeat Boss, there is also a macro for this, 3) Turn limit, just use a turn event and set the appropriate settings in the Chapter Data Editor (AKA CDE).

You can also do many other types of goals, like "escape to a square" with an area event, "talk to X unit" with a character event, "do X by X turn" or "keep X alive after X turns" by a conditioned turn event, "kill X unit" (doesn't have to be a boss) by an AFEV and death quote editor combination, "visit X house/village" by a house/village event, "have X unit attack X unit" with an AFEV/battle convo editor, and there are plenty of other ways to be creative, but I won't spoil them all.

Would the be able to be done with the disassembler and sorta just change the goal?

Cause I reckon I could do that rather than full custom events.

Anyway there is a patch up now, containing the prologue and chapter 1. There are;
Map Changes/Full Custom Map.
Chibi to Lazy Miniportrait.
Red and Green got new heads. (probably simple to see, battle palette not changed will be next time)
Selara was slimmed. (Maybe too much)
Durundal and Armads have been removed from the title screen. (Don't know how to add a subtitle yet)
CG's have been replaced with black screens. (Music still plays though)
Script has been (literally) revamped. I don't think there's much left of the last one.
More serious/mysterious overtone now.

Also, when I removed the tutorial by means of Nightmare (repointing to 00's) in chapter 1 the option to end your turn is lost. Does anyone know a fix or reason for that?

I like what you did with the background removal. It kinda gives a more detail on the pain Selara is going through psychologically. It's a good hack so far, it just has a few spacing problems with the text is all. Good job with picking colors for Selara's battle sprite, that blue is awesome. I look forward to playing more of this hack.

Is there any way to undo the patch I accidentally patched it over me fe 8 game that I was editing on FEditor Adv.

Plus, It doesn't even work.

SO. I like that you've changed the text around (Though, you seem to think that "thank you" is one word, and always spell it as "thankyou". Nothing big, just a personal nit pick). What I don't like is that it seems like more of a reskin than it was before. What I DO like is that you've added some back story in with those CGs. (Also, just want to note, if you can event well enough to remove the CGs, you should be able to change the music that plays during them. Like, those bird noises could be changed to something sad or ominous.)

I'm glad that you changed Red and Green's portraits around, even if the splices are kinda obvious. It's better than none at all. But, you've still Kent and Sain's palettes for them :c You changed Selara's, why not change their's?

Also, I don't think you changed Kent or Sain's stats to match Red or Green (their base stats I mean).

As for Selara's sprite, you did shrink it a little bit, but, to me, it only looks like you've shrunk the shoulders and not the body, so she still seems too big for a girl (For me at least) I can help you with that, if you want some help

Now, again, the text being changed is a great improvement, IMO. Still seems to reskin-ish, what with Selara's parents getting killed as well as Lyn's, and the story is the same, since those cavaliers need her to come to Caelin with them (Though, since you're new to event editing, I understand the limits)

The patch is designed for FE7. That is why it does not work on your edited FE8 ROM.

There is no 'undo' as far as I know. :/ Sorry but you may have to get a new FE8 ROM. Backing up your files is one of the most important things you can do.

I didn't event hack so much as change their palette pointer to point to a bunch of 00's in nightmare. But changing the sounds is definitely something I'm looking at. But perhaps not for a while. I'll see.

I'm learning how to palette change in GBAGE and once I can, that's going to be the first thing I do. Don't worry it will be done.

I've changed their growths, but yeah I didn't really bother with their bases. I'll change them a bit (not much though)

Well, technically, only her father was killed as her mother hasn't been mention yet. But I will see if I can think of a slightly different back story. Go, brain, go!

I got it working now. Played the first two maps, really enjoying it so far. I thought the fact that you named the knights Red and Green was pretty funny and I also liked the dreaming sequences. Very interesting and intriguing. I'm excited to figure out the background behind that.

Great job, stick with it!
